Park Serve Day: Belle Isle Marsh Cleanup

Belle Isle Marsh Reservation is an urban nature preserve and public recreation area protecting 188 acres of marsh, the last remnant within Boston of the salt marshes that were once prevalent along the Massachusetts Bay shoreline. The marsh is home to multiple species of saltmarsh plants, fish, and shellfish, most rare in a metropolitan area. This urban ecosystem, located between East Boston and Winthrop, faces a number of threats from human impact, and yet benefits from the protection of local stewards and multiple organizations.

This marsh was hit hard by the series of Nor'easters we faced in March 2018, and is now in need of volunteers to help cleanup debris. Everything from plywood and fishing gear to plastic particles have washed up into the marsh, where it can impact plants and wildlife. We need your help to restore this area!

Volunteers will meet in the parking lot before traversing to multiple locations in the marsh itself, so come prepared with muck boots or waterproof boots.
