Classic Corps Volunteer 

Love penguins? Curious about anacondas? Passionate about marine life and conservation? The New England Aquarium offers exciting volunteer opportunities where you can gain hands-on experience, connect with like-minded individuals, and contribute to protecting our blue planet.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We are actively recruiting volunteers in nearly every department! You can apply for up to THREE Classic Corps Volunteer Positions, and we’ll do our best to match you with the right role. We currently have volunteer opportunities in the following categories:

 

Animal Husbandry: Work directly with the Aquarium’s animal population, focusing on cleaning, diet preparation, and habitat maintenance. Requires good physical health and the ability to make quick decisions.

 

Animal Health: Assist veterinarians, biologists, and rescue teams with preventive care and rapid response for marine animals. Tasks include cleaning, diet prep, data entry, lab work, and administrative support. Volunteers do not handle animals during procedures.

 

Museum Operations: Support behind-the-scenes efforts in areas such as special events, communications, database management, and conservation research. These roles offer more flexible scheduling.

 

Education: Teach visitors about marine science at the Aquarium and throughout Greater Boston. Responsibilities include answering questions, assisting with programs, and working at interactive exhibits like touch tanks.

 

What Do Volunteers Do?

  • Prepare food for penguins, fish, seals, and sea lions.
  • Feed the animals in the Giant Ocean Tank.
  • Educate and interact with visitors.
  • Conduct research and conservation projects.
  • Design surveys and assist with outreach
  • And much more!.

Volunteer opportunities are available year-round in various departments. Most roles require a six-month commitment, working one full day per week (8 AM – 6 PM). Some weekend and short-term positions are available.
