Teacher Resource Center: Curriculum Development and Design Intern

Summary:

The New England Aquarium’s Teacher Resource Center offers free curriculum consultation and loan materials to anyone who works with students from pre-school through high school. At the Teacher Resource Center, visitors can speak with experienced environmental educators, try out interactive aquatic science activities, borrow or preview educational teaching materials and participate in Professional Development courses. 

Graduate students, teachers on sabbatical or retired teachers can gain experience supporting the professional development programs by updating and redesigning existing curriculum, and creating new curriculum for educators. This position is ideal for an education graduate student with an interest in marine science, or for a retired teacher interested in continuing their educational career.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 

• Evaluating and updating materials in the Teacher Resource Center
• Developing ocean science curriculum
• Developing ocean related activities for ELA and Math curricula
• Some existing topics may take priority based on material popularity but the majority of time can be spent on projects of intern’s own interest or specialty

Skills/Qualifications:
 

• Strong interest in curriculum development is essential
• Strong organizational skills
• Background in teaching or experience in curriculum design is preferred
• Knowledge or willingness to become familiar with the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core Frameworks
