MillPond Water Chestnut Removal
Water Chestnut (which actually isn't a nut at all...) is an aquatic vegetable native to parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Since its discovery in Concord, MA, in 1859, the plant has spread throughout the Northeast and has been found as far south as Maryland. In our waters, it blocks native plants from receiving light and can sap waters of oxygen, killing fish.
The best thing we can do? Get our feet wet and our hands dirty taking it out! We will be working with local volunteers to hop into canoes and pull this plant from the Upper and Lower MillPonds in Rowley, MA.
This is a grassroots organized event and there are thus limited canoes available. If possible, please bring your own canoe or small boat to participate. Otherwise, there are boats to share and land-based tasks that could use the help!
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+
