At Voluntern 2016, we introduced the first annual live blue Service Corps Awards. These three awards are meant to recognize individuals that have dedicated their time and energy to our episodic program by regularly attending cleanups, citizen science projects, habitat restoration projects, and similar efforts all around the Greater Boston Area.

The three awards are:

"Watershed Award" given to a volutneer that has volunteered at projects addressing a wide variety of issues across the Greater Boston Area, including projects never-before-seen on our calendar! This is given to an individual that simply aims to be invovled in everything.

"LBSC Skills Award" given to a volunteer that puts in countless hours into multiple committed positions, such as the Edge of the Sea touch tank educator and Turtle Emergency Response Volunteer positions.

"Service Leader of the Year" is given to one of our many volunteer Service Leaders that goes above and beyond the call of duty to plan and lead projects for the Service Corps.


At Voluntern 2018, the winners were:

Watershed Award: Kim Wright.  Kim started with the Service Corps in early 2018. In just a few months, she put in over 100 hours of service doing a variety of jobs across the Greater Boston Area. She gardened on the Greenway, installed fencing to protect shorebird nests, pulled invasive plants out of local marshes, labeled and cleaned storm drains around the city, and so much more.

LBSC Skills Award: Shaelyn Quinn. Shaelyn has been part of nearly every Skilled Position since we launched this model in 2017. She has educated visitors at our Edge of the Sea touch tank, engaged visitors in the Marine Mammal Center, and was a Turtle Emergency Response Volunteer. She has been a level-headed presence in areas that are often marked by chaos, and yet she keeps coming back and offers a great service to our community.

Service Leader of the Year: Kendra Jacomo.  Kendra has been a Service Leader since 2017 and has consistently stepped up and jumped into new projects when called upon. For a time, she did so by dedicating entire weekends to Aquarium Service – volunteering on Saturdays in Quincy and Sundays out in the field. So we’d like to thank Kendra for all of her hard work, dedication, and willingness to simply pick up the slack when we need it most!
