Marine Invasive Monitor Training

Invasive species are a major threat to marine environments, especially in coastal zones where they can establish themselves in rocky shores, salt marshes, and marinas. Removing every individual invader is impossible, but we can slow their spread by actively monitoring where they are established.

The Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) leads aquatic invasive species (AIS) detection and monitoring efforts through the Marine Invader Monitoring and Information Collaborative (MIMIC). Through the MIMIC protocol, we can actively contribute to citizen science and help the CZM track the spread of harmful invaders.

This training will help volunteers identify common invasive species, learn how to conduct effect surveys, and connect program participants to the scientists and regulators working on the issue.
